The North American University Stallions are celebrating a historic moment as freshman sensation Tyler Johns has been officially named the USCAA Cross Country Male Runner of the Week, recognizing his relentless drive, consistent improvement, and standout performances throughout the 2025 season.

Representing the Stallions in the Red River Athletic Conference and now making his mark on the national stage under the USCAA, Johns has shown the type of heart, hustle, and humility that defines the spirit of NAU Athletics. Competing as the only freshman in his time grouping, Tyler has displayed remarkable growth each week — improving his times in every race and setting multiple school records along the way. His recent performance at the RRAC Championships — finishing 21st overall with a time of 28:12.79 and a pace of 5:41 per mile — was yet another testament to his work ethic and consistency.
The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) honors athletes who not only excel on the course but also embody the values of dedication, sportsmanship, and academic balance. For Tyler, this recognition is more than a medal or headline — it's a signal of what's to come for a program on the rise.

Head Track & Cross Country Coach and Athletic Director Ken Apande spoke highly of his young runner's growth and maturity on and off the course:
"Tyler has worked so hard this season. He has been very dedicated, asked all of the right questions, and deserves this more than ever. He set a new record at his first meet and wasn't satisfied with the way he ran. I knew then we had a special student-athlete who will do big things in the future."
This week's female USCAA Cross Country Runner of the Week honor went to an athlete from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, marking a shared moment of celebration for two young runners making national waves.

For Johns, this award is only the beginning. His commitment to representing North American University with pride, faith, and focus has set a new standard for the next wave of Stallion runners. With every stride, Tyler proves that success in Cross Country isn't just about speed — it's about heart, discipline, and the will to finish stronger than you started.
Congratulations, Tyler Johns — USCAA Cross Country Male Runner of the Week!
