Women's Flag Football continues to gain momentum across the country at the collegiate and professional levels, with increased support from organizations such as the National Football League and expanding opportunities throughout women's athletics. The addition of the program reflects NAU's continued commitment to creating new pathways for student-athletes while building a culture of excellence both on and off the field.

Leading the program will be newly appointed Head Coach Chelbi Curvey, an educator, athletic coach, and respected sports official based in the Houston area. Coach Curvey is widely recognized for her involvement within the Texas amateur sports community and her work in public education. She currently works with KIPP Texas Public Schools and has experience as both a coach and official within the growing world of women's flag football.

Coach Curvey
A graduate of Prairie View A&M University, Coach Curvey competed in flag football during her time at PVAMU while also participating in various competitive leagues throughout the Houston area. Her coaching background includes experience in women's leagues and at James Madison High School, while currently serving as a flag football referee within the City of Houston.

"We are excited to officially begin building the Women's Flag Football program at North American University, and we believe Head Coach Chelbi Curvey is the perfect person to lead us into this new era," said Athletic Director Kenneth Apande.

"Coach Curvey brings several years of valuable experience to NAU. She competed in flag football at Prairie View A&M University and in various competitive leagues, while also gaining coaching experience in a women's league and at James Madison High School. In addition, she currently serves as a flag football referee in the City of Houston, which adds another level of knowledge and leadership to her background.

"Her passion for the game, commitment to student-athlete development, and overall experience will be tremendous assets to our university and growing program. We are excited to welcome Coach Curvey to the NAU family and look forward to the future of Women's Flag Football at North American University."
