Tough Road Challenge: North American University Falls to Prairie View A&M in NAIA RRAC vs NCAA SWAC Clash
Date: December 18, 2023
Location: Baby Dome, Prairie View A&M University
In a highly anticipated clash between North American University (NAU) and Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) as part of the NAIA RRAC vs NCAA SWAC Challenge, the Stallions faced an uphill battle against a formidable Panthers team on Monday, December 18th, 2023.
The setting at the Baby Dome on the campus of Prairie View A&M University was intense, with the Panthers showcasing their prowess as one of the top teams in the SWAC. Despite being known for their slow starts, NAU found themselves down early in the game, grappling with turnovers and challenging referee decisions.
One of the significant hurdles for the Stallions was the lingering fatigue from a demanding week. The team had triumphed over two legendary HSBCUs, Texas College, and Jarvis Christian University, in the Red River Conference, draining both physically and mentally. This team has an excellent academic average of a 3.1 GPA and the Coaches press them to hit the 3.5 mark. Add the pressure of finals week and the physical and mental stamina of the student-athletes had been put to the test over the past two weeks.
The Panthers, with their renowned run-and-gun plus corner 3 style, took control early and maintained a tight grip on the basketball. The final score reflected the Panthers' dominance, with PVAMU sealing the victory at 92-61. The Stallions, known for their resilience, continued to fight throughout the game, but PVAMU's relentless scoring proved insurmountable.
Despite the tough loss, individual performances shone through for NAU. Jalon Clark displayed remarkable skill with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists, despite facing constant double-teams and physical challenges of being hit, hacked, and even tackled at one point. Jamarric Hammond showcased his speed and precision with 12 points, including two crucial three-pointers, while Jordan Chambers-Harris contributed with timely three-pointers and free throws.
The game announcer, John Godfrey, acknowledged the Stallions' relentless effort, stating, "The Stallions just kept coming." The team's perseverance, even in challenging circumstances, showcased their determination and growth under Coach Doze's strategies.
Looking ahead, the new year holds promise for the Stallions. With rested legs and a better understanding of their roles, the team is gearing up for future challenges. The Sports Information Director encouraged the team with a prescription of "home cooking" and extended holiday wishes, urging them to recharge during the break.
Fans are urged to stay tuned to the Red River Athletic Conference as the Stallions prepare for the Battle on the Riverwalk against Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio on January 4th, 2024. The message is clear: "Hooves Up and Gooooooooooooooo Stallionssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!"
