NAU Stallion Football team will head to the Northwest region to fight over the pigskin with the Portland State University Vikings. Saturday, Sept. 16, 1 p.m., Hillsboro Stadium , Hillsboro, OR the two teams will be broadcasted on ESPN plus with play-by-play and game analyst covered by Matt Richert Scott Hermo.
PSU saw some positive signs at Wyoming. Despite a 31-17 loss, the Vikings got their offense going and saw a youth-infused defense buckle down in the second half and limit the Cowboys' ball movement. This is the 77th season of Portland State football (1947) and 28th season as a member of the Big Sky Conference... PSU is 21-5 in home openers since joining the Big Sky.
The Stallions are lead by Quarterback Jesper Korkalainen: He has completed 25 out of 60 passes for 334 yards, with two touchdowns and thr ee interceptions in the first two games. These stats suggest that he has had a bit of a mixed performance so far. Derrodrick Hadnot: He is the team's leading rusher, with 16 carries for 76 yards. It would be useful to know if he's been effective in converting those carries into significant gains or touchdowns. Colbi Clark and Nathanail Green: These two players are the top receivers on the team. Colbi Clark has 7 receptions for 102 yards and one touchdown, while Nathanail Green has 7 receptions for 97 yards. It seems like they are the primary targets in the passing game. Defensive Backs Korrye Williams and Mason Jenkins: These two players are the leading tacklers on the team, each with nine tackles. It's good to have strong tacklers in the defensive backfield. Team Offense: The team is averaging 253.5 yards of total offense per game and scoring an average of 12.0 points per game. These statistics suggest that the offense might need some improvement in terms of scoring more points. Team Defense: While the defense is allowing an average of 57.5 points per game, they are only allowing 386.5 yards of offense per game. This indicates that the defense may be struggling to keep opponents out of the end zone despite limiting their yardage. Turnovers and Penalties: The team has committed six turnovers and 22 penalties in the first two games. This suggests that there may be issues with ball security and discipline that need to be addressed.
Overall, it seems like the team has had some challenges in the early part of the season, particularly in terms of turnovers and points allowed on defense. Improvements in these areas, along with continued strong performances from key players like Colbi Clark, Nathanail Green, and the leading tacklers on defense, could lead to better results in future games.
