The Red River Buffalo Bayou Battle
Most of the battles of the Red River were brief skirmishes that involved a small number of combatants. These include the Battle of Red River War, Sweetwater Creek, and Palo Duro Canyon. Well ladies and gentlemen boys and girls, The Red River Athletic Conference witnessed The Battle of Buffalo Bayou in Stafford, Texas at 5:30 pm Thursday, January 11th, 2024. Just like in the battle that started near the Prairie Dog Town Fork recorded by Colonel Nelson A. Miles, "It Was A Running Fight".
THE GAME
The Ladies of North American University and Louisiana Christian University were up and down the floor with a fast-paced game. Lady Wildcat Princis Goff, a Previous RRAC Player of the Week Recipient, went in for the first shot of the game and missed and rebounded by Big Play
D'Marchay Scott who quickly hit the outlet and outstretched hands of
Kayla Dickey for 3. This showed LCU what type of night they were in for. In a shocking blitz of scoring the Lady Stallions went on a 10-point run which gave them the lead of 12-2 at the 4min mark. LCU's MCkayla Prince got them back on track with a wide-open jump shot and the battle ensued. By halftime, LCU clawed back to have a four-point lead of 34-38. In the second half, the Lady Stallions, AKA The Queens of The South showed why it is not just a team but a family. Each person had their role to play and brought it to the extreme. NAU outscored LCU 21-15 in the third quarter and turned up the defense getting 9 steals and 4 blocks in the half. LCU did not drive from Pineville, LA to down, keeping the game close and coming within a shot to win the game. The Lady Stallions kept their composure and held on to walk away with the win in a great and close score of 74-72.

Louisiana Christian University Wildcats should be very proud of their ladies. Princis Goff leads with 20 points, and 7 rebounds while DaKayla Howard knocks in 14 points and grabs 5 boards. Deja Tanks ended the night with 13 rebounds, 8 points with Yahznynne Andrews getting 11 rebounds and 2 blocks in only 16 minutes. of play. Eben with such a well-rounded team, this night belongs to the Queens of the Court.
NAU SCORERS
The high-flying
Keiarra Rivers leads all scorers and rebounds with 22 points, 17 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Quietly controlling the game letting her play speak for herself and leading by example for her team including several glass-tapping layups.
Elisa Peralta continued her surge in the combo guard position with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists as she kept her hands in the passing lane all game long. Tenacious, unshakable, persisting, and determined Kaylay Dickey chipped in with 10 points and 7 rebounds, while The Play Maker
Victoria Moore added 11 points and 9 assists. Yes! the game was close, but like the battle at Prairie Dog Town Fork, NAU still had the higher ground and the faster horses. Big congratulations to the Lady Stallions for showing the world how Queens of the South are the Queens of the Court.
