NAU vs. John Melvin Football Game Canceled; Homecoming Week Full of Action

STAFFORD, TX—It's with a mix of understanding and optimism that we announce the cancellation of our highly anticipated football game against John Melvin University, originally set for November 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the iconic Stafford MSN Stadium—known to the faithful as "The Stables of Sparta."

John Melvin University has recently encountered setbacks within their football program. As they work diligently to meet NAIA standards, we want to send our best wishes their way. Here at North American University, we've been on that same road in the last few years, and we know all too well the perseverance, planning, and passion it takes to elevate a program to that next level. JMU, keep your heads up—good things are coming your way, and we look forward to meeting on the gridiron in seasons to come!

In the meantime, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Kenneth Apande, is working tirelessly to secure a new opponent for the second week of November. At the time of this writing, Coach Apande is moments away from finalizing a deal to bring another team to "The Stables," and we're excited to announce it once everything is locked in. A special shoutout to all our Sooner Athletic Conference colleagues and fellow SIDs for your patience and support during this process. It's the teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership within our conference that truly embodies the NAIA's "Champions of Character" initiative.

While November 9th's matchup is temporarily off the calendar, the excitement isn't cooling down at NAU—Homecoming Week has arrived, and it's packed with athletic action and school spirit!

Homecoming Athletic Events:

• Thursday, October 24, 2024: Tip-off at 5 PM as our Men's JV1 basketball team takes on The University of Saint Thomas. Get ready to witness the rising stars of Stallion basketball!

• Friday, October 25, 2024: Our Lady Stallions JV basketball team will host a friendly matchup against Western Gulf College. Adding to the excitement, the JV football squad will be in the building, leading the student section in full Stallion spirit. It's all about redemption and revenge from this season's gridiron action!

• Saturday, October 26, 2024: The Homecoming Grand Finale. Prepare to witness the crowning of the Kings and Queens, followed by a thrilling football showdown against Nelson University (formerly SAGU). This is the game you don't want to miss! Let's bring the noise, show our Stallion pride, and make sure the alumni and parents aren't the loudest ones in the stands!

Hooves Up! You know the drill—when I say, "Hooves Up," put your fingers in the air and yell with everything you've got, "Gooooo Stallionsssssss!!!"
