Stallions, it's time to rally behind one of our own as Damione "DT" Thomas continues to elevate North American University's name in the Red River Athletic Conference. Thomas has earned the coveted Defensive Player of the Week award for Nov. 4-10, recognizing his impact on both ends of the court and establishing him as one of the most formidable defenders in the conference. Notably, this achievement also makes DT the second men's basketball player under Coach B. Doze to receive RRAC Player of the Week honors this season, joining standout Jalon Clark. With Keiarra Rivers from the women's basketball team recently claiming a Player of the Week title, Thomas becomes the third player from our basketball program to bring this honor to NAU.
This past week, Thomas anchored the Stallions to an impressive 87-75 victory over Southern University-New Orleans. The senior forward from Las Cruces, N.M., displayed his all-around defensive prowess, registering four steals, four blocks, and five defensive rebounds while adding 16 points to the scoreboard. Thomas's relentless defense and presence in the paint disrupted Southern's offense, allowing our Stallions to improve to a strong 3-1 season start.
Thomas's influence extends beyond his individual stats—he is consistently a game-changer. Averaging 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game, DT has a way of rallying the team and locking down opponents when the stakes are high. He's efficient and reliable around the basket with a field goal percentage of 50% and can even step out to make the defense pay from beyond the arc, shooting a respectable 37.5% from three-point range. In a recent 82-58 victory against Dallas Christian College, DT's 13 points and seven rebounds underscored his versatility and leadership on the court. It's safe to say DT's presence elevates everyone around him, and his physicality, standing at 6'10" and weighing in at 220 lbs, makes him a matchup nightmare for opponents.
But DT's success doesn't end at the baseline; he's just as committed off the court, majoring in mechanical engineering. Balancing the rigors of athletics with an intensive academic schedule, Thomas exemplifies the values of North American University and shows us all what it means to be an exceptional student-athlete.
So let's show our appreciation, NAU! DT has given his all to the Stallions, and now it's our turn to let him know his work has not gone unnoticed. He's not just a star athlete; he's an ambassador of the NAU spirit, a symbol of hard work, and an inspiration for everyone who wears the Stallion blue and white.
Get those four-fingered hooves up, NAU, and join me in giving DT the loud and proud support he deserves! We're behind you, DT, every step of the way! Goooooo Stallionsssss!!!!
