Celebrating Our Seniors: A Day of Resilience and Team Spirit
North American University Women's Soccer vs. LSU Alexandria
Final Score: NAU 0, LSU Alexandria 4
November 2, 2024
What an unforgettable day it was on November 2nd as North American University proudly celebrated our Women's Soccer Senior Day against LSU Alexandria at SaberCat Stadium. Despite the pouring rain and relentless lightning delays, the spirit of our athletes shone through, lighting up the field with resilience and determination. We gathered to honor our four remarkable seniors: #10 Genevieve Colon, #14 Jocelyne Mendoza, #16 Maria Alejandra Acosta, and #6 Jerusalem Morris—each of whom has made significant contributions to our program.
The match began with a heartfelt display of sportsmanship as LSU Alexandria kicked the ball out of bounds to allow for a standing ovation for our seniors. This gracious act exemplified their commitment to being true Champions of Character, a testament to the spirit of collegiate athletics. Kudos to LSUA for their class and respect for the game!
The elements were not kind to us that day. With the skies opening up, our Lady Stallions faced a daunting challenge, as rain drenched the field, creating tough conditions for play. The situation escalated further, leading to a 41-minute delay followed by a 30-minute stoppage due to lightning with just 30 minutes remaining in the match. Yet, through it all, our team fought valiantly with no substitutes available, demonstrating extraordinary resilience and heart.
The match ended with a score of 4-0 in favor of LSU Alexandria. Sacha Backus shone for LSUA, netting two goals and providing an assist, showcasing the level of competition we faced. While the scoreboard may not reflect the effort and determination our Lady Stallions exhibited, it's crucial to recognize that every dribble, every tackle, and every moment on that field embodies their unwavering dedication and passion for the sport.
Here's a quick look at the match stats:
- Final Score: LSU Alexandria 4, North American University 0
- Shots: NAU managed 4 shots with 4 on goal, while LSUA totaled 12 shots with 8 on goal.
- Saves: Our goalkeeper, Ava Wilson, put forth an impressive performance with 4 saves, reflecting her steadfast presence in the goal.
As we bid farewell to our seniors, it's important to celebrate not just their accomplishments but the legacy they leave behind.
