NAU Overcomes Late Deficit for a 71-69 Win

Post-Game Recap: Stallions Triumph Over LSU Alexandria in Thrilling 71-69 Victory

ALEXANDRIA, La. – What a game. What a finish. The North American University Stallions dug deep and mounted a fearless comeback to take down LSU Alexandria in a nail-biting 71-69 victory. It was a game full of twists, turns, and a fiery second-half surge that ended with a buzzer-beating, offensive-rebound basket that sealed the win.

The Stallions showed remarkable resolve, refusing to back down as they clawed their way back from a 10-point deficit going into the fourth quarter. When the Generals built up a 66-56 lead with just under four minutes to play, it looked like NAU might be on the verge of falling short. But this Stallions squad has shown they've got heart—and it shone through in the final moments.

The key to NAU's success? Grit, determination, and clutch plays from some standout players. Victoria Moore aka The Point Goddess ran the floor like a maestro, setting up plays and controlling the tempo when it mattered most. Kayla Dickey aka KD was as smooth as ever with 12 points, leading the charge in the comeback. Elisa Peralta aka Lady E wasn't about to let this game slip away, contributing 15 points and grabbing 8 big rebounds.

Let's take a look at some of the key stats and performances that turned this game into a Stallions victory:

Key Players for NAU:

  • Victoria Moore (The Point Goddess): 10 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals. Moore's poise in the clutch was unmatched, and she provided the playmaking spark when the Stallions needed it most.
  • Kayla Dickey (KD): 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals. Dickey was everywhere, making key shots and playing lockdown defense as LSU Alexandria attempted to close out the game.
  • Elisa Peralta (Lady E): 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. Peralta led with a steady hand, showing why she's one of the top leaders for the Stallions.
  • Maurdaisha Powell (DayDay): 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals. Powell was relentless on the glass and provided key defensive stops that helped turn the tide in the Stallions' favor.
  • Keaasia Robinson (The Dominator): 14 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal. Robinson was a force in the paint, controlling both ends and ensuring the Generals couldn't get comfortable.

Key Players for LSU Alexandria:

  • Dannah Martin-Hartwick: 17 points, 2 assists, 1 steal. Martin-Hartwick played a major role for the Generals, shooting 6-of-15 from the field and keeping her team in the game with timely baskets.
  • Jewel Jones: 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists. Jones hit some big shots but couldn't finish strong as NAU's defense locked her down in the fourth quarter.
  • Benedetta Peracchi: 11 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists. Peracchi was active on both ends of the floor and led the team in rebounds but couldn't convert when the Generals needed those extra possessions.
  • Amani Gray: 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists. Gray was solid, but the late turnovers from her squad played a big part in NAU's comeback.

The Game Breakdown:

The first half was a struggle for both teams offensively. LSU Alexandria managed to hold a narrow 26-22 lead at the break despite shooting just 37.9% from the field. The Stallions were right there with them, keeping the pressure on. The game truly began to heat up in the third quarter, where the lead changed hands several times. The Stallions finished the period strong, taking a 43-42 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, it was a back-and-forth battle. LSU Alexandria jumped out to an early 8-0 run, and the lead swelled to 10 points, 66-56, with just under four minutes remaining. But the Stallions refused to let up. A key 6-0 run made it 66-62, and with the game tied at 69-69 with 14 seconds left, the Stallions pounced on an LSU turnover and grabbed a critical offensive rebound. Ja'naa Johnson was able to get a put back basket, giving the Stallions the lead with just seconds remaining.

TheDJ Wolfman's Analysis:
"Look, you can't underestimate the heart of a Stallion. They dug deep when they needed to and never stopped believing in themselves. The comeback wasn't just about hitting shots—it was about defense, grit, and the mental toughness to finish strong. You've got to give a lot of credit to Lady E and The Dominator for their leadership down the stretch. That offensive rebound at the end? Classic Stallions hustle. There were some moments when it looked like LSU Alexandria would run away with it, but you can't sleep on NAU. They know how to battle through adversity."

With the win, North American University improves to 6-6 on the season. But now, all focus shifts to the Northern New Mexico game on December 16, 2024. The Stallions will be back at The Stable—the Stafford MSN Gym—for another tough battle at 5:30 PM. The team is on fire right now, and they'll be looking to keep the momentum rolling.
