Texas College Edges Out North American in I-69 Showdown, 70-65
Stafford, TX – In a game where every possession felt like a playoff moment, the North American University Stallions came up just short against Texas College, falling 70-65 in the final matchup of the year. The Stallions, known for their grit and tenacity, left everything on the court, but ultimately couldn't overcome the high-percentage shooting from Texas College.
First Half Recap
The action tipped off at The Stable, with both teams showing determination to set the tone. Texas College established an early rhythm, shooting 37.9% from the field and hitting a blistering 45.5% from beyond the arc. Shayston Cornish, who led all scorers with 19 points, hit three critical three-pointers, and Romeo Postell's inside-outside game proved problematic for the Stallions.
North American fought valiantly to keep the game close, with forward Damione Thomas dominating the paint, grabbing 12 rebounds and pouring in 21 points. Despite his efforts, the Stallions found themselves trailing 39-35 at the half.
Second Half Drama
The Stallions came out of the locker room determined to make a statement. Sean Fry came alive, draining two clutch three-pointers and finishing the night with 16 points and six rebounds. Freshman Erric Wynn added a spark off the bench, scoring 8 points on 3-of-5 shooting.
However, turnovers (15 in total) and an uncharacteristically cold night from downtown (5-of-27, 18.5%) hampered the Stallions' efforts. Texas College's steady free-throw shooting (16-of-20) and a balanced offensive attack proved to be the difference in the end.
