Stafford, Texas
In an intense defensive showdown, the North American University Stallions clashed with the Texas A&M University Texarkana Eagles, delivering a captivating display of hoops in Stafford, Texas.
The game began with the Stallions facing a slow start, a trend becoming somewhat customary for them. Both teams cautiously probed each other's defenses, akin to a heavyweight boxing match. Strategies revolved around neutralizing the opposition's strengths and capitalizing on their own bread-and-butter plays.
Despite trailing 28-36 at halftime, the Stallions showcased promising signs in the first half. Notably, C.J. Miller demonstrated his prowess with three crucial tip-ins off offensive rebounds, contributing 7 points and 8 rebounds, 7 of which were on the offensive end. The Stallions dominated the boards, outrebounding the Eagles 43 to 26, with Jalon Clark leading the charge. Clark recorded a double-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds, along with 3 assists and 3 steals, embodying versatility on the court.
Team captain and leading scorer J.C. displayed remarkable composure, going a perfect 5 for 5 from the free-throw line while providing crucial momentum shifts for the team. Sean Fry contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Damion Thomas made his presence felt with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 2 steals.
Despite the valiant efforts of TAMUT's Justin Davis and Jeff Norment, who both scored 13 points, supported by Davis' 8 rebounds and 7 assists, late-game turnovers from their teammates dashed their hopes of victory. Although the Eagles once held a 15-point lead, the Stallions rallied, ultimately clinching a narrow 59-57 win.
Credit was duly given to the North American Basketball team and Coach Doze for their stellar performance. Fans were encouraged to catch the Stallions in action on Saturday, following Stafford's largest recruitment open house, as they faced LSUS, the first-place team in the RRAC, at the Stafford MSD gymnasium. Notably, it was designated as Jersey Day at The Stable, urging supporters to don their favorite sports jerseys and rally behind the Stallions. With enthusiasm high, the call to action resounded: "Get Those Hooves Up and Goooooooooo Stalllionsssss!"
