A Triumph of Resilience and Team Spirit

By Rev. Justin Jackson

In the heart of the NAIA Red River Athletic Conference, a clash of basketball titans unfolded as North American University's (NAU) Stallions squared off against Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) Saints. The stage was set for an epic showdown, but little did anyone anticipate the dramatic narrative that would unfold on the hardwood.

Before the opening tip-off, a cloud of controversy loomed over the game. A promotional flyer, intended to drum up excitement for the matchup, fell victim to digital vandalism on social media. The defacement, while regrettable, only served to fuel the fire burning within the hearts of the NAU Stallions. With a collective resolve, they set out to prove that their strength lay not only in their athleticism but also in their resilience.

As the game commenced, it became evident that NAU was a force to be reckoned with. Led by Coach Bryan Doze, the Stallions took to the court with an unwavering determination. From the electrifying dunks of Sean Fry to the strategic playmaking of Jalon Clark, added by the defense and vision of E.J. Wynn, every member of the team contributed to the spectacle unfolding before the eyes of the spectators.

Despite the valiant efforts of Our Lady of the Lake University, spearheaded by standout players like Rob Gil and Xavier Purnell, they were unable to thwart the Stallions' relentless charge. NAU's Caleb Malik shone brightly, showcasing his prowess with a dazzling display of skill and finesse. Alongside him, Kenwyion "Shooter" White dazzled the crowd with his precision shooting, while Damione Thomas dominated the paint with an imposing presence.

The final buzzer sounded, and the Stallions emerged victorious with a score of 86-78. It was a testament to their tenacity, their teamwork, and their unyielding spirit. As the cheers echoed throughout The Stable, it was clear that this victory was more than just a triumph on the scoreboard, it was a triumph of the human spirit.

NAU's standout performances were exemplified by their statistics on the night. Caleb Malik led the charge with 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist, shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. Kenwyion "Shooter" White contributed 15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal, while Damione Thomas notched a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and 1 assist. Jalon Clark orchestrated the offense masterfully, recording 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block, while Sean Fry added 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.

For Our Lady of the Lake University, Rob Gil led the charge with 16 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Coming off the bench, Breion Powell contributed 10 points, while Trey Law added 9 points and 6 rebounds. Xavier Purnell known as the D and 3 guy emerged as a pivotal player for OLLU, amassing 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Looking ahead, NAU extends an invitation to all to join them for their upcoming senior night matchup against Huston-Tillotson University. As the season draws to a close, they stand poised to continue their journey towards greatness, fueled by the unwavering support of their community.  I would like to challenge all faculty and staff to actually show up for this one.

In the annals of NAU's basketball history, this game will be remembered not only for the thrilling on-court action but also for the indomitable spirit of the Stallions who refused to be deterred by adversity. As they gallop towards future victories, one thing is certain: the Stallions of NAU are a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the court.  Remember Hoooves Up! and Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo  Stallionssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
