North American Falls Short Against Our Lady of the Lake in Hard-Fought Battle
San Antonio, TX – January 28, 2025 – The North American University Lady Stallions gave a spirited effort on the road but ultimately fell to Our Lady of the Lake University, 83-70, in a high-energy showdown at Mabee Gymnasium.
Fourth-Quarter Fightback Not Enough
Trailing by as many as 17 in the third quarter, North American stormed back with a 27-point fourth quarter, matching Our Lady of the Lake basket for basket in the final frame. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome as OLLU capitalized on efficient shooting and rebounding dominance.
Dickey Dominates Off the Bench
Sophomore Kayla Dickey was sensational for the Lady Stallions, leading all NAU scorers with 27 points on an impressive 9-for-12 shooting. She also contributed 5 rebounds and 5 steals, providing a much-needed spark off the bench.
Victoria Moore added 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Maurdaisha Powell chipped in with 10 points and 2 steals. The Lady Stallions showcased a balanced attack, but costly turnovers (25) and second-chance points from OLLU made the difference.
OLLU's Plata Lights It Up
The Saints were led by Julia Plata, who put on a shooting clinic, draining 8-of-14 from deep en route to 28 points. Carlea Owens was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Despite a strong 44.3% shooting performance, North American struggled from beyond the arc, attempting only seven three-pointers compared to OLLU's 26. The Saints capitalized on extra possessions and their efficiency at the free-throw line (22-of-28 FT) sealed the deal.
Up Next
The Lady Stallions will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their road stretch. With Dickey's scoring touch and the team's never-say-die attitude, expect a fierce response in their next contest.
Stay tuned, Stallion Nation, and keep those hooves up!
