Texarkana, Texas — The North American University Lady Stallions hit the road Thursday evening for a Red River Athletic Conference clash against Texas A&M–Texarkana. Despite a hard-fought effort, NAU fell 5-0 to the Eagles, who sit near the top of the standings with an 8-1-1 overall record.
Texarkana came out swinging, scoring four times in the opening half before adding their fifth in the 81st minute to close the match. The Eagles outshot NAU 44-6 and held an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.
But while the scoreboard told one story, the heart of this young Lady Stallion squad said another. Junior Striker Genevieve Colón led the team with five total shots, including three on target, pushing the Texarkana defense throughout the night. Between the posts, goalkeeper Arely Sarabia stood tall under relentless pressure, recording nine saves.
When asked postgame about Texarkana's strategy of substituting five players at a time to test NAU's short bench, Head Coach Dane Smith responded with trademark fire:
"Let's see how they respond when I rebuild next year and add depth. Remember, we are very young this year."
That statement is more than just words—it's a vision. Coach Smith has doubled down on his commitment to building this program brick by brick, with resilience, patience, and the long game always in sight. The future is about depth, strength, and a Stallion squad that can weather any storm.
But here's where you, the NAU community, come in. Our student-athletes are grinding every week, and they need your energy in the stands. Faculty, staff, and students get in FREE with a valid NAU ID—so come out, bring that Stallion pride, and make your presence felt. And if you're moved to do more, donations at the gate directly support our student-athletes and their journey.
The Lady Stallions continue conference play next week, hungry to grow, compete, and prove that this program is built for the future.
