LADY STALLIONS HANDLE BUSINESS IN HOBBS — STILL UNDEFEATED, STILL UNBOTHERED
North American 76, Southwest 62
The Lady Stallions walked into Hobbs with one objective: dominate the matchup, control the pace, and keep the undefeated record intact. Mission accomplished. North American powered past Southwest 76–62 to improve to 5–0 overall and 3–0 in RRAC/USCAA play.
The opening quarter was a tight chess match at 11–11, but once North American settled into its rhythm in the second quarter, the tone of the game changed. A 24-point surge pushed the Stallions ahead at halftime, and from that point forward, NAU dictated the action on both ends.
What separated the Stallions tonight was their relentlessness in the paint and their commitment to controlling the glass. North American outscored Southwest 52–22 inside and finished with a commanding 42–33 rebounding advantage. When NAU attacks downhill and owns the interior, very few teams in the RRAC, USCAA, or NAIA level can keep up.
STALLIONS' STANDOUT PERFORMERS
Savannah Velazquez (18 points, 7–10 FG)
Velazquez continues to show leadership and poise that go well beyond her years. Picking her moments, managing tempo, and striking with efficiency, she once again proved why she's one of the most dependable point guards in the conference.
Maurdaisha Powell (13 points, 6 rebounds)
Powell has been on an offensive tear recently. Whether Coach Davis calls her number or she goes one-on-one, she is a matchup problem. Her ability to break defenders down and create her own shot gave NAU consistent momentum.
Jerkayla Dickey (12 points)
Known across the conference as a defensive stopper, Dickey reminded everyone tonight that she is not limited to just shutting players down. She knocked down shots, attacked gaps, and played with the toughness she's built her name on.
Aliyah Solis (5 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists)
Solis is quickly making her case as the frontrunner for Sixth Woman of the Year. Every time she checks in, the shot distribution sharpens, the ball movement improves, and the team's chemistry elevates.
Ja'naa Johnson (9 points, 5 rebounds)
Johnson brought instant impact off the bench. She attacked the glass, finished plays, and supplied the energy that shifts momentum in winning programs.
Akyra Hodges (8 rebounds)
Hodges continues to anchor the interior with force. Her rebounding presence, physicality, and timing played a major role in stopping Southwest's second-chance opportunities.
As Mr. Melvin Hodges, father of Akyra and one of the team's most devoted supporters, says best:
"If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready."
Tonight, the entire NAU roster stayed ready.
NUMBERS THAT TOLD THE STORY
Field Goal Shooting: NAU 47%
Rebounds: NAU 42 – SW 33
Points in the Paint: NAU 52
Turnovers Forced: 16
Bench Impact: 20 combined points from Solis, Johnson, Scott, and Hodges
Coach Davis emphasized after the game that this team's identity is rooted in toughness, discipline, and the ability to control every aspect of the matchup. Tonight was a clear example of that identity on full display.
A STATEMENT WIN WITH A BIGGER MESSAGE
This victory wasn't just another check in the win column — it was a reminder to the conference and beyond that North American University is building something real. The Lady Stallions aren't satisfied with simply leading the RRAC or USCAA. They want to measure themselves against the best in the NAIA, and every win pushes that message forward.
The Lady Stallions are on a mission, and the mission is simple: dominate on every floor they step on.
Hooves Up and Goooooooo Lady Stallionssssssssssssss.
