Despite Strong First Half, Stallions Fall to Ranked Opponent at The Stable
STAFFORD, Texas – The North American University Stallions went hoof-to-hoof with LSU Alexandria for the first 20 minutes, but the Generals flexed their firepower in the second half to pull away for a 73-62 victory Thursday night at The Stable.
It was a battle early, as the Stallions (9-15, 5-14) kept pace with the nationally ranked Generals (20-1, 17-1) behind a sensational performance from Jamarric Hammond, who torched the nets for 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. LSU Alexandria held a slim 31-30 advantage at halftime, but the second half told a different story.
The Generals turned up the intensity, led by EJ McQuillan and Kashie Natt, who each poured in 19 points. Natt also dominated the boards, finishing just shy of a double-double with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Despite North American's defensive pressure, LSU Alexandria capitalized on second-chance opportunities and outscored the Stallions 42-32 after the break.
Key Moments:
Hammond's Hot Hand – The Stallions' leading scorer drilled three first-half triples, keeping North American within striking distance.
Second-Half Surge – LSU Alexandria's defense clamped down, limiting open looks and forcing key turnovers.
Clutch Free Throws – The Generals sealed the deal from the charity stripe late in the game.
Oakley Lewis chipped in 9 points and 3 rebounds, while Tevin Gowens facilitated the offense with 6 assists. The Stallions forced 14 steals, showing grit on the defensive end, but struggled from the field, shooting 34% overall.
