Stallions Strike First, but Texas A&M-Texarkana Rallies for 2-1 Win

Felipe Carrasco finds the net, Flynn Faulkner adds an assist, and NAU battles until the final whistle.

HOUSTON, Texas — The North American University men's soccer team struck first Thursday night, but Texas A&M-Texarkana rallied with two second-half goals to hand the Stallions a 2-1 setback at Sabercats Stadium on October 8.

After a scoreless opening 36 minutes, Felipe Hernandez Carrasco broke through in the 37th minute, finishing a play assisted by Flynn Faulkner to give North American a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Texarkana answered in the second half, with Jose Olivas scoring twice to turn the match around. The Stallions continued to battle, but the equalizer never came.

Goalkeeper Lutho Mkaba recorded nine saves against 11 shots on target, keeping North American within reach as the visitors pressed forward. Faulkner finished with two shots on goal and an assist, while Hernandez Carrasco led the Stallions with their lone goal.

North American moves to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. The result stings, but the Stallions will have another opportunity to respond as the season continues.

Hooves Up: Leadership in the Stands

A special shoutout to Coach Kenneth Apande, the new Athletic Director, Head Track and Field Coach, and a pioneer who helped establish North American University's athletic program. The man, the myth, the legend was in the stands supporting the Stallions alongside the university's first Athletic Director.

That is what leadership looks like: showing up, supporting the student-athletes, and investing in the program.

Now, the question is: Where is the rest of Stallion Nation?

These student-athletes represent North American University every time they step onto the pitch. They deserve to see their campus community represented in the stands, too. When the Stallions show out, the campus should show up!
