In basketball, every successful team needs a player who can see the game one step ahead. A player who understands timing, spacing, and how to put teammates in positions to succeed. During the 2025-2026 season, that player for North American University was Tevin Gowins.

 
Known throughout the season as "The Floor General," Gowins established himself as one of the premier point guards in the NAIA. While many players are measured by points scored, Gowins made his impact through leadership, decision-making, and his ability to make everyone around him better.

His numbers speak for themselves.

Gowins averaged 5.9 assists per game, placing him among the national leaders in NAIA Division I men's basketball and finishing fourth nationally in assists per game. Within the Red River Athletic Conference, he ranked second in total assists with 136, consistently serving as the engine that kept the Stallion offense moving.

Even more impressive was his efficiency with the basketball. Gowins finished first in the NAIA in assist-to-turnover ratio at 6.8, a remarkable statistic that reflects not only his court vision but also his discipline and basketball IQ. Simply put, no player in the country took care of the basketball better while creating opportunities for teammates at the rate Gowins did.

Those who watched Gowins throughout the season understand his true value. He controlled the pace of games, organized the offense, and delivered timely passes that often turned good possessions into great ones. He embraced the responsibilities of the point guard position and consistently put winning basketball ahead of personal recognition.

 
There is a special value in a guard who can lead, communicate, and make the right decision possession after possession. Gowins brought those qualities every time he stepped onto the floor wearing the Stallion uniform.

Now, as he prepares for the next chapter of his basketball journey as a graduate transfer, he leaves behind a legacy of leadership, professionalism, and excellence. Any program looking for a proven floor leader will find a player who understands what it takes to impact winning at a high level.
