The North American University Lady Stallions Basketball team showcased a dominant performance as they triumphed over the Lady Rams of Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. The game plan for the Lady Stallions focused on ball possession and dominating the boards, and they executed it with precision, securing a total of 49 rebounds.
Crashing the boards proved to be a resounding success, with each player on North American's team grabbing at least two rebounds. On the defensive end, the team emphasized limiting shots and fighting for loose balls, resulting in 7 blocked shots and 7 steals, showcasing a cohesive team effort on the defensive front.
Huston-Tillotson's Dyana Offutt displayed an impressive performance, making 50 percent of her shots and finishing the game with 21 points. Destiny Stanford contributed 13 points, while Anessa Dussette added 12 points. However, the Lady Stallions, led by the exceptional Keiarra Rivers, proved to be too much for their opponents.
Keiarra Rivers showcased her all-around skills, accumulating 25 points, 15 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal. Rivers, recognized as one of the top players in the nation, logged the most minutes for the team and showcased her scoring efficiency, shooting 9 of 14 from the field, including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc.
Elisa Peralta made a significant impact in the scoring department, displaying versatility by hitting shots from various positions on the court. Peralta finished the game with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and three steals. Desiree Rogers dominated the paint with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and several altered shots, contributing 8 points to the team's victory.
The Lady Stallions excelled in multiple facets of the game, scoring 42 points in the paint, 19 off turnovers, and 15 second-chance points. Their stellar defense also translated into 10 fastbreak points, while the bench contributed with 18 points. The game saw ten ties and eight lead changes until NAU went on a decisive run, holding the lead for a total of 26 minutes.
This impressive effort by the Tenacious Lady Stallion Basketball team deserves congratulations on a well-earned victory. The next challenge awaits on Thursday against Louisiana Christian University at 5 pm in the Stafford MSN Gym, also known as The Stable.
