Lady Stallions Show Grit in Narrow Loss to Louisiana Christian

Day Day All-Day" and the "Point Goddess" Shine Bright

Lady Stallions Battle to the Wire Against Louisiana Christian, Fall 68-67 in a Nail-Biter
November 23, 2024 – Stafford, Texas
Written By Rev. Justin C. Jackson

STAFFORD, TEXAS – The Lady Stallions of North American University put on a display of heart, hustle, and high-flying energy at The Stable this Saturday, engaging in a slugfest against Louisiana Christian University. Despite a thrilling back-and-forth contest, the Stallions fell just one point shy, 68-67, in a game that showcased the fight and potential of this squad.

Day Day All-Day Delivers in Crunch Time

When Elisa Peralta (Lady E) found herself in early foul trouble, it was Maurdaisha Powell (Day Day All-Day) who stepped up to answer the call. Powell lit up the scoreboard with a dazzling 21-point performance, shooting 9-16 from the field and draining three critical three-pointers to keep North American within striking distance throughout the game. Powell's ability to create her own shot and hit from deep under pressure proved why she's one of the cornerstones of this team.

The Point Goddess Shows Her Magic

Not to be outdone, Victoria Moore (The Point Goddess) brought her signature flair and precision to the court. Moore was an absolute maestro, dropping 14 points and dishing out 7 assists, slicing through Louisiana Christian's defense like a hot knife through butter. Whether it was setting up her teammates or taking matters into her own hands, Moore showed why fans chant her nickname with pride.

Domination on the Glass

In the battle of the boards, Keasia Robinson was a force to be reckoned with. The gritty forward hauled down 11 rebounds, 6 of them offensive, turning missed opportunities into second-chance points. Robinson also chipped in 7 points, solidifying her reputation as the Stallions' engine in the paint.

A Strong Supporting Cast

The bench brought energy and determination, highlighted by Ja'naa Johnson, who contributed 7 points in just 9 minutes of action, making every moment count. Meanwhile, D'Marchay Scott (Big Play D'Marchay), known for her physical play in the post, is still finding her rhythm but showed glimpses of her game-changing potential with 3 rebounds and 2 points in limited minutes.

Freshman Lauryn Williams provided a spark off the bench as well, knocking down a three-pointer and bringing defensive intensity to the court.

Tale of the Tape: Stats Recap

  • Field Goal Percentage: Stallions shot 36.8% (25-68), compared to Louisiana Christian's efficient 50.0% (24-48).
  • Three-Point Shooting: Stallions hit 6 of 18 (33.3%), outpacing the Wildcats' 2 of 10 (20.0%).

A Tale of Two Halves

The game was a rollercoaster of emotions. The Lady Stallions overcame a sluggish first quarter, trailing 15-10, with an explosive second quarter, outscoring Louisiana Christian 25-18. At halftime, North American held a slim two-point lead, 35-33.

The third quarter saw the Stallions extend their lead, thanks to Powell's sharpshooting and Moore's steady playmaking. Heading into the final period with a four-point advantage, 50-46, the Stallions looked poised to secure the win.

But the fourth quarter belonged to the Wildcats, who outscored North American 22-17 with clutch free throws and timely buckets from Princis Goff, who finished with a monstrous 28-point, 11-rebound double-double for Louisiana Christian.

Rallying Cry for Stallion Nation

Despite the loss, the Stallions proved they have the firepower and depth to compete with anyone. With Thanksgiving on the horizon, the team will regroup, recharge, and come back stronger for their next battle.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 30th, as the Lady Stallions hit the road to face Huston-Tillotson University in the Texas Legend HBCU Classic. The game tips off at 1:00 PM CST in Austin, Texas, at the Austin Area Urban League Gymnasium.
