Resilience in the Bayou: Lady Stallions Battle Tough Against LSUS Pilots
Shreveport, LA – The North American University Lady Stallions showed grit and determination on Thursday night at The Dock, going toe-to-toe with the Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots before ultimately falling 61-48 in a hard-fought Red River Athletic Conference matchup.
Despite the final score, the Lady Stallions demonstrated growth and competitive spirit throughout the contest, with several key performances standing out.
Key Performers
Victoria Moore and Kayla Dickey led the offensive charge for NAU, each netting 13 points to keep the Pilots on their toes. Moore showcased her sharpshooting, going 5-for-8 from the field and sinking three shots from beyond the arc, while Dickey added a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and recorded a team-high five steals.
Ja'naa Johnson chipped in 10 points, backed by her strong presence in the paint, where she pulled down six rebounds. Maurdaisha Powell made her mark defensively with eight rebounds, helping the Lady Stallions battle on the boards.
First Quarter Struggles
The game started slowly for NAU, as the Lady Stallions managed just two points in the opening quarter. However, the defense stepped up to limit the Pilots to nine points, keeping the game within reach.
Second Quarter Surge
The Lady Stallions found their rhythm in the second quarter, putting 14 points on the board. Moore and Dickey started to heat up offensively, while Powell's work on the boards helped to stabilize the defense.
Third Quarter Fightback
NAU's strongest performance came in the third quarter, where they tallied 17 points and began to close the gap. Johnson and Moore led a spirited charge, with Dickey's defensive efforts sparking transitions that kept the Pilots on edge.
Late-Game Challenges
Despite the Lady Stallions' best efforts, the Pilots' balanced scoring and defensive prowess proved too much. LSUS was led by Alexis Brown, who finished with 12 points, while Vicky Parra controlled the paint with nine rebounds and six blocks.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Stallions (5-6, 1-5 RRAC) will look to bounce back on Saturday, December 14, when they travel to Alexandria, LA, to take on the LSUA Lady Generals. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., and the team is eager to capitalize on the lessons learned from this game.
The NAU faithful are encouraged to rally behind their Lady Stallions as they continue their journey through conference play. With standout efforts from players like Moore, Dickey, and Johnson, the Lady Stallions are poised for growth and success in the coming games.
