The North American University Stallions soccer program is proud to announce the addition of Mainor Mejia Suazo to its roster. Known as "The Guardian," Mejia Suazo is a defensive powerhouse whose journey reflects resilience, leadership, and pure grit on the soccer field.
From Honduras to Houston
Born in Honduras, Mainor Mejia Suazo began his soccer journey on the fields of his homeland before his family moved to Houston, Texas. Settling in Houston, he made an immediate impact as a standout defender at Hastings High School. With his physical presence, sharp tactical mind, and on-field leadership, he quickly became a local star, earning the respect of his teammates, coaches, and competitors.
Before Hastings, Mainor played one season at Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas, where he began to develop his reputation as a disciplined and versatile defender.
Dominating at Paris Junior College
After high school, Mainor took his talents to Paris Junior College, where he served as the backline captain and cemented his reputation as a dependable and commanding center back. While at PJC, "The Guardian" patrolled the defensive third with precision, racking up an impressive stat line:
- Games Played: 15
- Goals: 2
- Assists: 3
- Clean Sheets: 5
Mainor's ability to organize the defense, win aerial duels, and maintain composure under pressure made him the cornerstone of the team's backline.
A Perfect Fit for NAU's Defensive Identity
Coach Danes' Stallions are known for their disciplined defense and quick counter-attacking style, and Mainor is the ideal addition to this philosophy. His strengths align seamlessly with NAU's system:
- Defensive Leadership: As a backline captain at PJC, Mainor brings leadership and communication skills that will anchor NAU's defense.
- Aerial Presence: Standing tall with a physical presence, he's a force during set pieces, both offensively and defensively.
- Versatility: While excelling at center back, his adaptability gives Coach Danes flexibility in crafting defensive strategies.
- Composure Under Pressure: Mainor is calm when chaos ensues, a crucial trait for a program looking to compete at the highest level.
Setting the Standard at NAU
Thanks to Coach Danes' recruiting philosophy, Mainor has already outlined his goals as a student-athlete, exemplifying his drive and focus. Expect him to bring the same determination to NAU that he displayed in his earlier stops.
Nicknamed "The Guardian"
Dubbed "The Guardian" for his reliability and ability to protect the backline, Mainor will undoubtedly become a fan favorite as he begins his NAU journey. Whether locking down opposing forwards or leading his teammates with unshakable poise, Mainor is here to defend the Stallions' stable.
