First Half: Trading Punches
The game began as a tug-of-war, with both teams testing each other's mettle. The Lady Stallions capitalized on second-chance points and defensive stops to take a 15-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. Elisa Peralta and Victoria Moore set the tone early, combining for key baskets that energized the home crowd.
In the second quarter, Huston-Tillotson's Summer Thomas fought valiantly, scoring in the paint and helping her team stay within reach. But the Lady Stallions countered with discipline, maintaining a 31-27 lead at halftime.
Third Quarter: Domination by Defense
The turning point of the game came in the third quarter, where the Lady Stallions outscored their opponents 20-6. Ja'naa Johnson dominated the boards, pulling down 10 total rebounds, including critical offensive ones that led to second-chance points. The Stallions' defense stifled Huston-Tillotson, holding them to just 25.8% shooting for the game and forcing 15 turnovers overall.
Fourth Quarter: Huston-Tillotson's Late Push Falls Short
The final period saw Huston-Tillotson attempt a rally, with Destiny Stanford contributing 12 points and draining clutch free throws. However, the Stallions' depth proved too much. Victoria Moore led all scorers with 15 points, while Keasia Robinson added a commanding 10 points and eight rebounds.
Team Stats: Depth and Defense Lead the Way
North American's balanced attack and dominance on the glass proved decisive, as they outrebounded Huston-Tillotson 52-38. Their bench played a critical role, with Ja'naa Johnson and Jewel Brandley combining for 14 points and 15 rebounds. The Stallions also made the most of their trips to the free-throw line, shooting 70.8% compared to Huston-Tillotson's 66.7%.
