NAU STALLIONS STAND TALL IN SAN ANTONIO

Balanced Attack and Stifling Defense Lead to 80-70 Road Victory Over TAMUSA

STABLE TALK RECAP – NAU MEN'S BASKETBALL
February 1, 2025 – North American at Texas A&M-San Antonio

Good Monday morning, Saints and Stallions. If you weren't in attendance Saturday night, then let me stand before you as a witness—North American University walked into Texas A&M-San Antonio's gymnasium, stood firm in the face of battle, and walked out victorious with an 80-70 win. It wasn't just a game; it was a message. The Stallions came ready, they executed, and they delivered a performance worthy of praise.

First Half – Laying the Foundation

NAU wasted no time getting to work, taking control early with disciplined offense and smothering defense. Tevin Gowens set the tone like a lead soloist in the choir, scoring 18 points on an efficient 6-of-10 from the field. He moved with purpose, knocked down shots with confidence, and facilitated the offense with four assists. The Stallions kept the tempo high, forcing turnovers and turning defense into offense. Jayden Jackson and Reid Daniels led a defensive front that made TAMUSA uncomfortable all night, grabbing steals and disrupting passing lanes.

By halftime, NAU had built a 39-35 lead, setting the stage for what was to come.

Second Half – Closing Time

When the second half began, the Stallions tightened their grip on the game. Enter Jamarric Hammond, a spark off the bench who provided the extra firepower needed to extend the lead. He poured in 19 points, attacking the rim with authority and knocking down key shots when NAU needed them most. Caleb Malik also came alive from beyond the arc, drilling three triples to help keep TAMUSA at bay.

But make no mistake—this victory wasn't just about offense. It was about heart. It was about grit. It was about Reid Daniels anchoring the glass with 10 rebounds and securing extra possessions when it mattered most. It was about NAU's relentless defense forcing 24 turnovers, disrupting TAMUSA's rhythm, and keeping them from ever finding their footing.

Final Word – Championship Mentality

This was not just a win—it was a testament to what this team is capable of when they lock in and play together. NAU imposed its will on both ends of the floor. The defense was aggressive, the rebounding was relentless, and the execution was precise. This is the type of performance that builds champions, and if the Stallions continue on this path, there will be more victories to come.

The work isn't done, but the foundation is set. The mission continues. North American University is moving forward with purpose, and the rest of the league has been put on notice.
