STALLIONS SHOW POISE LATE | NAU WOMEN EDGE LOUISIANA CHRISTIAN, 58–55

Fourth-quarter composure and defensive pressure lift NAU

PINEVILLE, La. — Road wins are never pretty, but they all count the same. The North American University women's basketball team leaned on toughness, defensive pressure, and timely free throws to grind out a 58–55 victory over Louisiana Christian on Friday night at H.O. West Fieldhouse.

NAU weathered an early surge from LCU, trailing 18–12 after the opening quarter, before settling in defensively. The Stallions responded with a strong second quarter, holding Louisiana Christian to just seven points and cutting the deficit heading into halftime. From there, it turned into a possession-by-possession battle, with North American outscoring the Wildcats in each of the final three periods.

The fourth quarter was where the Stallions truly showed their composure. NAU poured in 18 points over the final 10 minutes, attacking the basket and converting at the free-throw line to close out a tight contest on the road.

Key Performers (NAU):

  • Savannah Velazquez provided a major spark off the bench, leading all scorers with 17 points, while also pulling down 9 rebounds and recording 6 steals in an all-around effort.

  • Jerkayla Dickey followed with 16 points, knocking down two three-pointers and adding 5 steals, consistently disrupting passing lanes.

  • Aliyah Solis finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, showing poise late and going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

  • Akyra Hodges controlled the paint with 11 rebounds, helping the Stallions win the rebounding battle 50–44.

Defensively, North American forced 20 Louisiana Christian turnovers, turning pressure into key scoring opportunities while holding firm in the final possessions.
