Lady Stallions Push Late, Fall at Xavier (La.)

Powell’s 18 and a fourth-quarter surge highlight a tough road test

Xavier (La.) 69, North American 63
January 3, 2026 | New Orleans, La.
The Lady Stallions brought grit, shot-making, and belief into New Orleans, but Xavier (La.) held serve at home, edging North American 69–63 in a hard-fought afternoon contest at 7900 Stroelitz Street.
North American came out with confidence early, trading punches in the opening quarter before trailing 25–21. Xavier slowly built separation over the middle two quarters, but the Lady Stallions never blinked. Down the stretch, North American made a strong fourth-quarter push, cutting into the deficit and forcing Xavier to earn every possession late.
Maurdaisha Powell led the charge with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks while logging all 40 minutes. Powell attacked the paint, absorbed contact, and stayed aggressive from start to finish, setting the tone with her toughness and composure.
Day Day Pass
Jerkayla Dickey orchestrated the offense with poise, tallying 10 points and six assists, consistently putting teammates in position to score. Off the bench, Aliyah Solis delivered a spark, knocking down three triples and finishing with 10 points, while Savannah Velazquez added seven points and battled defensively.
North American shot an efficient 53.8% from beyond the arc and stayed competitive on the glass, but Xavier used second-chance opportunities and timely baskets to maintain control. The Gold Rush outrebounded the Lady Stallions and capitalized on late possessions to seal the outcome.
Despite the final margin, the Lady Stallions showed resilience, chemistry, and growth on the road. This group continues to compete with confidence, respond to adversity, and represent North American University with toughness and togetherness—traits that will travel well as conference play marches on.
