Another Close One Slips Away for Lady Stallions in 56–52 Loss to TAMUT

Fourth-quarter surge highlights effort despite tough stretch

Lady Stallions Drop Tight Conference Battle to Texas A&M–Texarkana, 56–52

Stafford, Texas – January 8, 2026

The North American University Lady Stallions continue searching for rhythm in conference play, falling 56–52 to Texas A&M–Texarkana on Thursday evening inside The Stable, marking another close loss during a challenging stretch of the season.

NAU battled to the final horn but found itself playing catch-up after trailing 29–21 at halftime. Despite a stronger second-half effort, the Lady Stallions were unable to fully erase the early deficit as Texarkana held on late.

North American showed its best basketball in the fourth quarter, outscoring TAMUT 18–15, but the early quarters proved costly. The Lady Stallions shot 33.3% from the field for the game and 27.3% from three-point range, while Texas A&M–Texarkana capitalized on timely possessions to maintain control.

Akyra Hodges led NAU offensively with 13 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting, while Maurdaisha Powell added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in an all-around effort. Savannah Velazquez contributed nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals, setting the tone defensively on the perimeter.

Defensively, the Lady Stallions forced 21 turnovers and collected 13 steals, showing activity and effort that kept the game within reach. However, offensive consistency remained elusive as NAU managed just 18 field goals on the night.

Texas A&M–Texarkana was led by Chi'onne Dailey, who finished with 14 points, while Imani Rothschild and Ty'Shelle Harris added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

With the loss, North American continues to work through a skid as conference play intensifies. The Lady Stallions remain competitive but will look to turn effort into execution as they regroup and prepare for their next RRAC test.
