The Emerging Speed Threat

STAFFORD, TX

The North American University Stallions continue to build a roster that doesn't just compete—it covers every inch of the track.

With the additions of Tacoby East and Abbot Acosta, Head Coach LaDavey Merriweather is making one thing clear:

This program isn't one-dimensional… it's built for every race, every lane, and every moment.

Tacoby East | La Grange HS (TX) | The Emerging Speed Threat

Tacoby East & Abbot Acosta
Tacoby East steps into The Stable as a sprinter with untapped potential and developing top-end speed.

  •  100m: 11.36 (Projected 11.18)
  •  200m: 23.80 (Projected 23.33)

East represents what every program looks for in recruiting—growth potential.

He's still climbing, still developing, and under the NAU system, that trajectory could turn into something dangerous in the sprint lanes.

"This is that type of athlete you don't rush… you develop—and when it clicks, it's a problem for everybody else on the track."

With continued training, East has the tools to become a key contributor in the short sprints and relay pool.

Abbot Acosta | La Grange HS (TX) | The Engine of Endurance

Tacoby East & Abbot Acosta
Now here's where things shift gears…

Abbot Acosta brings the kind of versatility that stretches from explosive mid-distance to long-distance endurance—and that's rare.

  •  800m: 2:04
  •  1600m: 4:55
  •  5K: 17:50
  •  3200m: 10:50
  •  400m: 53

At 5'8", 135 lbs, Acosta is a patient, strategic runner—the kind who understands pace, timing, and when to make his move.

And here's what stands out even more…

  •  Multi-sport athlete (Track, Football, Basketball)
  •  Known for effort, discipline, and consistency

"Some runners chase the race… others control it. Acosta? He studies it, waits on it, and then goes and gets it."

His ability to compete across distances gives NAU a valuable asset in:

  • Mid-distance events
  • Distance races
  • Cross Country impact

And his mindset?

"I give 110% every time—like it's a championship."

That's not just a quote… that's culture.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: BUILDING A COMPLETE TEAM

With East and Acosta now in the mix, the Stallions are doing something special:

  • Adding speed development on the sprint side
  • Strengthening mid-distance and distance depth
  • Bringing in multi-sport athletes with competitive toughness

This isn't just recruiting…
this is roster architecture.

"From the 100 meters to the 5K, the Stallions are making sure there are no gaps—only opportunities."
