The North American University Stallions closed out the Cross Country season on a strong note at the Red River Athletic Conference Championships, led by freshman standout #4389 Tyler Johns, who finished 21st overall out of 37 runners with an official time of 28:12.79.
Johns, running with poise and determination, clocked an impressive pace of 5:41 per mile and maintained a steady speed of 10.57 mph, showcasing not just athletic grit but remarkable consistency for a first-year competitor. His time placed him within 4 minutes and 5 seconds of the overall leader, capping off a season marked by steady progress and personal milestones.
Head Track and Cross Country Coach and NAU Athletic Director Coach Ken Apande praised the young runner's performance, along with his teammates Milca and Sam, who all delivered season-best showings:
"Week 11 is in the books. What a great way to end the CC season at the RRAC championships. Please make sure you congratulate Tyler, Milca, and Sam. They PRed this week. These 3 have PRed multiple times throughout the season and always gave their best," said Coach Apande.
Coach Apande also reminded his student-athletes that discipline extends beyond the finish line:
"Please take this week to focus on your academics and study hall. Make sure to post your scientific lab notebooks. Let's have a great week!"
The Stallions' Cross Country program continues to grow under Coach Apande's leadership, proving that effort, improvement, and academic focus remain at the heart of NAU Athletics.
