Tyler Johns Shatters School Record at Clifton Gilliard Invitational
Written By Rev. Justin C. Jackson
The men's cross country squad may have been running with a solo representative at the Clifton Gilliard Invitational on September 25, 2025, but Tyler Johns more than carried the Stallion banner on his own. Competing against a stacked regional field on the scenic course at Prairie View A&M University, Tyler crossed the finish line with a time of 29:45.53, setting a new school record and marking a personal best in the 8K distance.
Even running as the lone Stallion, Tyler showed unmatched focus, determination, and heart. Finishing 26th overall, he proved that one athlete's grit can still make a huge impact and put NAU men's cross country on the map. Every step Tyler ran reflected hours of hard work, early mornings, and a relentless commitment to excellence — the kind of performance that inspires both teammates and coaches alike.
Coach Kenneth Apande shared his pride, saying:
"Tyler ran a phenomenal race. Being out there solo is never easy, but he pushed himself and delivered a performance that sets the bar higher for our program. A school record and personal best? That's Stallion pride at its finest."
Stallion Nation, celebrate Tyler Johns' historic 29:45.53 — one man, one race, one unforgettable performance! Goooooooo Stallionsssss!!!!!!!!!!!
