Stallion Men Dig Deep at Rice

Tyler Johns Keeps Making History

From the Stallion Trails!

The NAU Men's Cross Country team stormed into Rice University on September 12, 2025, ready to prove they belong on Houston's biggest stage. The course was no joke, but the Stallions showed grit with Tyler Johns clocking in at 19:54.10 to lead the way. Johns, who has been raising the bar week after week, continues to push himself into the record books and into NAU history.

Fresh off his school-record run at the Bearkat Twilight (9/5), Johns reminded the field that his rise is no fluke. With consistency, dedication, and fire, he's embodying what it means to be a Stallion athlete.

Coach Kenneth Apande, NAU's Head Track & Field Coach and Athletic Director, was crystal clear in his post-meet remarks:

"Hard work + consistency = results. Tyler is showing what happens when you're fully committed. He's not just racing—he's setting the standard for what this program can be. That's leadership in motion."

NAU Player of the Week Spotlight (9/1–9/7):
This week, the spotlight shines on two Stallion standouts.
Tyler Johns

  • Tyler Johns – With perfect attendance and relentless drive, Tyler etched his name into Stallion history by setting a new school record at the Bearkat Twilight. His continued success at Rice proves he's the real deal, anchoring NAU's men's program with poise and determination.
K Palm Mens Track War Hawk Meet

  • Keqwon Palm – A two-sport athlete who has decided to put his energy into track over football, Keqwon has been unstoppable in his dedication. His perfect attendance and dominance in time trials haven't gone unnoticed. Coach Apande even hinted he may soon wear the captain's mantle. That's not just talent—that's leadership being forged in the grind.

Next Up:
The Stallion Men won't toe the line in competition this week, but training never stops. With eyes fixed on Prairie View A&M, the team will continue their full practice schedule, weight training, and Saturday runs to sharpen endurance. Johns, Palm, and the rest of the men's squad are proving that culture is built in the quiet weeks—when no one is watching but the grind doesn't stop.

Get those 4-fingered hooves up and Goooooooo Stallionsssssss!!!!!
