STAFFORD, TX – Hooves up and hats off, Stallion Nation!
In a major move that's got the international basketball world buzzing, North American University's very own Damione "DT" Thomas has officially signed his first professional contract with Ungmennafelagio Snaefell—better known as Snaefell Basketball Club, a top team in Iceland's Division I league! That's right—DAMIONE THOMAS is taking his high-flying game from The Stable to the frosty courts of Stykkishólmur, Iceland.
Standing tall at 6'10", Thomas is the kind of presence you feel in the paint—and now, the Icelandic league is about to find out what Red River and USCAA opponents already know: DT is a problem.
From NAU Stallion to EuroLeague Standout
DT just wrapped up an impressive senior campaign at North American University, averaging 10.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game over 26 games. But don't let the averages fool you—Thomas had moments of sheer dominance, including:
-
24-point explosion vs. Voorhees
-
19-rebound masterclass vs. Texas College
-
22 points and 13 rebounds vs. Our Lady of the Lake
These weren't just stats—they were statements. And the recognition came accordingly:
He's not just playing basketball—he's building a résumé!
Snaefell's New Tower in the Paint
Snaefell—red and white warriors of the Icelandic Division I—finished 8th place last season. But don't blink: with Thomas anchoring the frontcourt, they're primed for a serious surge.
DT joins a stacked lineup that includes:
-
Khalyl Waters – 25.3 PPG last season, a certified American bucket-getter
-
Matt Treacy – Irish swingman with a smooth 6'7" frame
-
Juan Luis Navarro – 6'6" Spanish forward with veteran grit
-
Alejandro Rubiera – 6'3" Spanish point guard, a floor general
-
Isak Baldursson – Icelandic guard with range and speed
Coach Borgeson and the Snaefell squad just found their missing piece. Thomas brings size, rim protection, rebounding dominance, and a championship mindset from a program that believes in earning it the hard way.
And you better believe playing alongside scorers like Waters and Rubiera means DT will get to shine as a defensive enforcer, a glass cleaner, and finisher in pick-and-roll situations. Look for him to make an immediate impact and bring a little Stallion Stampede to the Icelandic hardwood.
From the Coach's Mic
"DT was a cornerstone of our men's basketball program," said Coach B. Doze. "He worked, he led, and now he's reaping the rewards. He's built for this."
NAU's mission is to prepare students to rise—and rise again—and DT is living proof.
From Las Cruces to Iceland
A graduate of Onate High School in Las Cruces, NM, and a former starter at Northern New Mexico College, Thomas found his rhythm and power at NAU. With an elite work ethic and humble spirit, DT showed what's possible when faith, grind, and focus collide.
Final Words
Congratulations to Damione "DT" Thomas, our newest professional basketball player. From dominating the paint in Stafford to making waves in Europe, you're representing the Stallion Spirit with pride and power.
NAU fans—keep your hooooves up! This is just the beginning for DT, and we'll be cheering loud from the Stable all the way to Snaefell!
