HUNTSVILLE, Texas – North American University's women's cross country team opened the 2026 season Friday evening at the Bearkat Twilight XC Meet, hosted by Sam Houston State University at Kate Barr-Ross Memorial Park. Senior Demry Salciado represented the Stallions in the season opener, competing against a field featuring NCAA Division I and Division II programs.

For Salciado, the race marked the beginning of her final collegiate cross country campaign and the first step on North American University's journey toward the 2026 USCAA National Championships. The senior embraced the challenge of opening her season against strong competition from Sam Houston, Prairie View A&M, and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Salciado completed the course in 34:07.5, battling through the early-season conditions while serving as the Stallions' lone women's competitor. As one of the program's veteran leaders, her effort established an important benchmark as NAU begins building toward the championship portion of the season.

Season-opening meets are often about gaining race experience, evaluating fitness levels, and establishing a foundation for future improvement. Salciado's performance gives the Stallions a starting point as they continue training and preparing for the challenges ahead. Historically, North American University teams have shown significant growth throughout the season, and the Stallions will look to continue that trend as the fall schedule progresses.
