Prairie View, Texas – The 91st Annual Prairie View A&M Relays were packed with thrilling performances, and the women's team from North American University (NAU), the Stallions, showcased incredible resilience and determination throughout the competition. From field events to fast-paced sprints, the Lady Stallions were in the thick of the action, leaving their mark and setting the stage for a promising season ahead.
Women's NAU Events
In the discus, Chloe Hensley fought hard to make her mark, securing 8th place out of 22 competitors with a throw of 25.16m. While it wasn't a top finish, Hensley's performance was a solid display of power and precision, and it's clear she's only getting started. With more time in the ring, expect to see those distances climb as the season progresses.
The 100-meter dash brought out the speed, and Alayah Gore was one of the top contenders for NAU. She finished 6th out of 38 runners, posting a time of 12.32 seconds. Gore's sprint was fast and furious, but this race was just a preview of the speed she's capable of. Her hunger for improvement is palpable, and it won't be long before she's vying for the top spots in future meets.
Next up, Elina Gonzalaz took on the 800-meter with a solid effort, finishing 17th out of 22 runners with a time of 2 minutes, 52.84 seconds. Although she didn't crack the top of the standings, Gonzalaz's determination and endurance were on full display, and you can bet this experience will fuel her drive to improve with each race.
In the 200-meter, Alayah Gore came back strong, posting a 12th place finish out of 47 runners, with a time of 26.30 seconds. Gore's consistency in the shorter sprints is impressive, and her performance here solidified her as one to watch as the season unfolds. Meanwhile, Niya Lewis faced tough competition but gave her all, finishing 38th out of 47 runners with a time of 30.29 seconds. Lewis' spirit was evident, and her growth in the 200m will come with more reps and experience.
Throughout the relays, the NAU women's team, the Stallions, demonstrated tremendous heart, showing that they are in a period of growth and development. Coach Apande's positive outlook extends beyond just the men's team, with a clear focus on improvement and building momentum. "Every race is a step forward," he said. "Our women are pushing their limits, and I have no doubt they'll continue to show growth as the season progresses. We're excited to see what they can accomplish, and we'll be cheering them on every step of the way."
From the discus to the sprints, the women's NAU team, the Stallions, made their presence felt at the PVAMU Relays, leaving the competition with a renewed sense of drive and motivation.
